First Appointment

Yesterday was my first appointment with my OB GYN. FINALLY!!! I mean, I'm only 10 and half weeks pregnant. Fortunately, I really liked the facility, and everyone seemed very nice. They tried to hear the heartbeat, but we could not hear it yet. The doc also gave me some medicine for the morning sickness, and it seems to be helping alot already. It was nice to finally be able to ask any questions I had, and get some answers. I was getting a bit discouraged, and feeling like Ben and I were on our own through this.

They also moved my due date from January 9th to January 16th. It doesn't look like Ben is going to get his tax break. He has been hoping we would deliver in December for tax purposes. Isn't he sweet? HA HA. Way to think about the important stuff, right?

I also told the doc about the Intelligender test fiasco, and she said we should go with the girl test. Poor Ben, he's just not getting his way at all. We wrote the company an email, and asked them about the situation, and they are sending us another test for free. So we will get to have a tie breaker! They also said they thought the girl test was the accurate one. Which means my mother, Ben's mother, the Intelligender staff, the doctor, Ben's brother, and I all think this little one is a GIRL!!! Looks like Ben is tough out of luck.

Next week, we will have our first ultrasound, which we're very excited about. We will get to see the heartbeating, and get our first view of Baby McCarty. However, we will not find out the sex of the baby for another 8 weeks.

In the next couple of months we will go on a tour of the hospital and baby ward. We will also be taking classes through the hospital for first time pregnancies. I am so excited to finally get to have some of the enjoyable aspects of pregnancy. Up until now I had only experienced the terrible morning sickness, and back aches. In fact, the only positive thing I had experienced so far was the positive pregnancy test, and the ability to finally grow my finger nails. HA HA. Now we are getting to experience some of the fun parts, like hearing the baby's heartbeat and ultrasound. We're quickly approaching the time that we get to find out the gender. And then we'll get to prepare our little one's nursery. These things make all the aches, tears, and exhaustion well worth it.

Ben's Work Bench

Ben got his work bench finished, and the garage looks excellent now. We're gradually getting everything organized, so that we can be prepared for Baby McCarty. We've completed the attic as well, so everything is starting to get in place. The nursery will be cleared out before we know it, and then it will be time to paint and add baby furniture. We can't wait to be able to get our little nursery ready.

Anyway, I thought I would add a few pics of Ben's new work bench. He is so proud of it, and worked so hard at building it.

Ben finally has his "man" garage. He's been out there the past two weekends, and now he wants to build stuff for the house (which kind of scares me). He built a shelf for his stereo, so he can listen to music and drink beer out in "his" garage. He's so silly. Goofy boys!

Intelligender Test #2...

We took a second test since the first one exploded. I figured that scientifically speaking a test blowing up is not a great sign. So we took another one, and it said we're having a GIRL!!!! HA HA. I guess we'll find out from the doctor in a few more weeks. For now, I am going to stick with my girl verdict since that is what I've thought from the beginning and that test did not explode on us.
That's our BOY result....

That's our GIRL result...
We'll find out through the "old-fashioned" ultrasound, but I must say these were fun to do. It was like a little science experiment.

Intelligender Test...

We took our first Intelligender test this morning, and it looks like my motherly instinct was completely wrong. It says we're having a little BOY!!! I was totally shocked, but I can't wait to meet our little guy. The test is only 90% accurate, so there is still a small chance that it is a girl. We'll find out for sure in 8-10 weeks when the doc does the actual ultrasound.
But for now it looks like we're having a little boy, and Ben is already woohooing all over the house. He's so excited, and it doesn't matter how many times I remind him that the test is not 100%. Big Man Ben is having a boy!!! ha ha. He's so funny. He even made me take a picture of the boy result. I'll be sure to add it to my blog later on in the day.
I keep teasing him, and saying it may be twins. The test says that in the case of twins, the girl color indicates that you are having two girls, but the boy color indicates that you're having either two boys or one of each. Twins do run in my family, so its possible. HA HA. I doubt it, but it is fun to scare Ben.
We'll be doing another test later on, so we'll see if it has the same results.

Ben's 1st Father's Day

Well, today is Ben's first Father's Day. It started with a nice omelet for breakfast, and he's getting to have a fun day of golf with his friend, Phil. Isaac got daddy a puppy card, and I got him a Pink Floyd and a Bob Marley Rockabye Lullabies CD. I figured he would enjoy that more than all the baby tunes. For that matter, I probably will, too. You can only hear "The Wheels On the Bus" so many times without losing your mind.
Of course, I am still at home while Ben has his day of fun. (I've not left my house in 3 weeks due to morning sickness.) Not cool. The doctor has given me a few medications, but nothing seems to be helping very much. Let's hope it ends with the first trimester. Only a few more weeks to go, and then I'll be in the second trimester.
June is already a very busy month for us, with both of our birthdays and our anniversary, but I suppose now we will be adding Father's Day to the mix. We'll just have to get spoiled every June from now on.
Well, I promise that eventually I will be adding more pics, and not just my boring blog entries. We're just not great at taking pics, and when we do we don't put them on the computer right away.
Anyway, Happy Father's Day to all those daddies and daddies-to-be!

Mother's Intuition

Studies say that 73% of expecting mothers can accurately tell the gender of their little one based purely on intuition. I don't know how true this is, but I feel very certain that Baby McCarty is girl. No reason for thinking this, just what I've thought from the beginning. Ben hopes it is a boy, but I think his hopes are hopeless.
Not that I would mind having a little guy. In fact, I will be thrilled either way, but I will be a bit surprised. We won't find out if I'm correct until August. We're going to take the Intelligender test in one more week from this Saturday. It is supposed to be 90% accurate, but we will see.
We can't wait to see what our little bundle of joy will be. I am so ready to prepare the nursery, and start buying baby things.
I wonder how accurate grandmother's intuition is? My mom thinks it is a girl as well, and so does Ben's brother, Nate. Ben seems to be the only mind thinking its a boy. Watch us all be wrong...and Ben be right. Oh brother, I would never hear the end of it.

Morning Sickness My Rear...

This has not been the most enjoyable week. Who ever decided that this particular ailment of pregnancy should be called "morning sickness" was a moron. Its "all-day-and-all-night sickness," or "any-damn-time-it-pleases sickness." Its terrible. I only thought waking up in the middle of the night for the frequent need to urinate was an inconvenience...it does not hold a candle compared to the dark run to the restroom due to sudden nausea. Holy cow!
Poor Ben and Isaac don't know what to do with me. I can't go anywhere due to the constant nauseation. Half the time I can not even move. I simply curl up on the sofa or bed in the fetal position, and pray that I'll start feeling better soon. I would take the back aches, and stomach cramps with little complaint if I could lose this terrible "morning" sickness. I enjoyed some of my birthday cake that Ben made for me on Thursday only to spend all of Friday night and all day today feeling like crud.
It doesn't seem to matter what I do...I feel terrible. So much for the beautiful glowing feelings of being pregnant. We've gotten Sea-Bands, ginger root, ginger ale, crackers, I eat frequently, etc. Nothing helps!!! Lord help me!!!

McCarty Intro...

We are now expecting our first little McCarty. This is such an exciting time for us, and we can't wait to welcome our little girl or little boy. We've got a little more that 7 months to go, and the countdown is already on. I am thrilled to be a soon-to-be mommy, but I could do without some of my pregnancy symptoms. I'm starting this blog as a dedication to our growing family. This will allow me to update family and friends on our pregnancy and our lives.
